Red Head Cleanup

Here are the cleaned up lines and a rough color for the red head. Hopefully, I'll be able to get the blonde in today as well. can't wait to see this thing completely painted!

Red Hed

Here's the sketch for this week's Art Jumble. The theme is red heads... I could be cool and creative and take a less-cliched interpretation of the words "red head" but why do that?! I'm gonna treat this one Similarly somewhat to the "brunette" I did a few weeks back, I'd also like to do a blonde for last week's theme and pair it with this one. I have a few days before a new topic...
And I get my cintiq tonight! I can't wait to use it! This'll be my first at-home cintiq. I'm buying it from my good friend, Erin Middendorf, whom inefibly prefers the tablet. It's understandibly a small platform for painting... nevertheless, I can't afford the newer 2000 dollar models... despite my desperate longing for one *sigh*. In other news... to those of you who care about it (Liz) I am so very painfully aware that I'm 3 months behind on my "lady of the month" series... I got stumped on May's painting... I think I got a little too ambitious as well... as it deviates profundly from the aesthetic of it's predessecors. Reflecting upon the series as a whole, I am debating whether or not I should bother continuing with it... many reasons are influencing me. A: there's little place for them in my body of work. It's such a wierd little niche, and there is so little to unify the piceces I've done. B: And looking back, they seem, at least artistically, very trivial to me... the list continues. I've got so many more interesting art endeavors that I could pick up otherwise and I might just do that. I started them, I suppose, to rekindle my forgotten talents with watercolor, gouache, and pen & ink. Which they haven't done as I had hoped. I'll continue to search for ways to explore the traditional media again... but don't expect to see any more lady's of such an ilk.

Succulents Done!

Here's a progression from sketch to middle-stages of one of my latest pieces... just me watering my succulents (cacti and the like). I hope to eventually pull this one into Photoshop and throw in texturing and more minute detail work please, let me know what you think!

YAY it's done! I think... I finally got time to work on it tonight and seeing as how crazy my schedule has been this week I'm gonna call it done... hope you like it guys.

Back from Maine (WIP)

Just a super quick sketch that I'll likely flesh out more over the next few weeks. I recently spent a week in Maine, my home state. and of course, I had lobsters. not enough, but oh well. The trip was great decompression and I somehow still have a job here in Cali :3 . Anywho, I always feel somewhat guilty about eating one of my favorite foods on account of how they're prepared... so I thought I'd illustrate those feelings... or mayhaps I was literally run out of Maine by the ghastly visages of my delectably ample-clawed victims! oh the horror! oh... and their names are Charles and Gregory, respectively...

PigPug

This isn't my pet... technically he belongs to my roommate. I love him to death though, and I wish I could afford a dog of my own... but for the time being, Pig Pug provides me with most of the fun of a dog and none of the responsibilities. He also reminds me surprisingly of the english bulldog I grew up with. Maybe I'll do a special piece for him by week's end.

This is also coincidentally my first Art Jumble post! love that place!

A Day Late and More Than a Dollar Short...

This month has had many ups and downs... and as per usual, my job situation is still giving me a rather lovely stomach ulcer... I shall name him Frederick. Anyways, while the work is really fun and rewarding at leap frog right now. Not knowing if it will still be there the following week is taking it's toll on my morale. And while most of my friends are just now getting benefits at their shiny new staff positions, I'm left wondering why all I can find are non-committal companies offering work that just evaporates before it starts... Or freelance jobs pretending to take an interest in me, then suddenly ceasing to return my calls. If anyone out there has a suggestion for what the hell I'm doing wrong in my career, let me know. I feel like I'm back in the teenage dating scene and I'm sincerely inching closer and closer to the conclusion that I'm not cut out for the art biz.
I'd like to take this moment to blame my previously described malaise for why I have neglected to post this month's lady. She's almost done, I just haven't been up to finishing her in the past few days. I've either been super busy, or super exhausted. But I'm sure no one really gives a shit anyway, it's just a painting.

Meme: Draw yourself as a Teen!

An art Meme started by davario I just did after a friend showing me the massive slew of other awesome ones here. After seeing all of the awesome artists up there I had to do my own, here's me at 17 and then at 23... wow. quite a change. I'm not nearly as bitter as I make myself out to be now, though I do involuntarily tend more to pessimism than I prefer these days. Still, I think it's hilarious somehow. Enjoy!
