I Swear, I Still Have A Pulse!

My boss just had Laser eye surgery. Not the kind that makes your vision better either. No now he's got high-powered hydrogen laser cannons for eyes... Jerk. ;)

Man, it's been a long time since I've posted anything, or even since I've been here. I swear, I'm still here... somehow.
So, what now? I'm currently working on a cute little illustration for fun involving a trifecta, as it were, of my favorite vices... Coffee, Hookahs, and Dames (who enjoy the two aforementioned things). It's moving slowly though due to my increasing free-time losses in recent weeks. I just finished a bit of... Carebears freelance >__<, and I'm somehow still employed at Leap Frog... But with the global economy enduring shit storm Katrina... and Leap Frog running based on the retail markets and the holiday season... I... ...So don't wanna think about that. There's just no time for artwork when you've gone fetal position in a dark corner of your bedroom I guess. Ah oh well, I'm somehow actually optimistic still. At any rate, I'm going to try to update more regularly now... but don't take my word for it-- just take a look, in a book.... wow, I have problems.

Still paintin' colors are a little all over the place. I'll tweak that soon.... I'm so not good at this kinda stuff.

Arnie and Me: Done

Arnie, my dog, and me when I was a kid. This was alot of fun to finish off in illustrator, and it was really pleasing to see how quickly I was able to finish it, compared to my other recent artings. I hope you guys enjoy it.

WALL-E

Holy crap! it's already been a year since I worked on this title! the other day I finally got my hands on a copy of the Leapster Wall-E game that I helped Sam Hood make. I worked on the "Rocket Ride" Game. I also banged out the GEL-A Steward robots in the game. But the solar system shots are by far my favorites. and here they are. The producers asked for a series of planetary shots, and corresponding surface shots (there's no surface shot for Earth because it was a film-sensitive shot, and Pixar hadn't finalized the direction they wanted us to go with for Earth. By the time they did, I had already been pulled onto another project. So someone else got to do it). For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Leapster, it is a handheld system running a flash-based game engine. it's screen has a 1:1 aspect ratio 160px touch screen and an 8fps frame rate... these limitations are daunting to work with at first, but it really forces you to get your compositions and color values just right for maximum readability on the glass. after a while of back and fourth with revisions I finally came out the other side with these guys, and a butt-load of indispensable design experience.

Draw Yourself as a Kid

Art Jumble is making me do it! I am vividly aware that I draw myself alot. However; this one is pure and honest, an art jumble thing... and the fact that I've been wanting to do justice to my favorite dog of all time. His name was Arnie the Fun Hog. Yes this was his real name, dead serious. And as if the name didn't say it, he was the best god-damned dog to have ever trotted the earth. He was also my best friend, and one of the fondest memories of my youth. Sadly he died long ago, but I'll never forget him... and so with Art Jumble making this week's topic "draw yourself as a kid" I had to fit Arnie in there somewhere. For now I just wanted to get good caricatures, so the background is hiding. Shhh... we'll probably be running through the woods or something, just like we used to.

Red Hed

Here's the sketch for this week's Art Jumble. The theme is red heads... I could be cool and creative and take a less-cliched interpretation of the words "red head" but why do that?! I'm gonna treat this one Similarly somewhat to the "brunette" I did a few weeks back, I'd also like to do a blonde for last week's theme and pair it with this one. I have a few days before a new topic...
And I get my cintiq tonight! I can't wait to use it! This'll be my first at-home cintiq. I'm buying it from my good friend, Erin Middendorf, whom inefibly prefers the tablet. It's understandibly a small platform for painting... nevertheless, I can't afford the newer 2000 dollar models... despite my desperate longing for one *sigh*. In other news... to those of you who care about it (Liz) I am so very painfully aware that I'm 3 months behind on my "lady of the month" series... I got stumped on May's painting... I think I got a little too ambitious as well... as it deviates profundly from the aesthetic of it's predessecors. Reflecting upon the series as a whole, I am debating whether or not I should bother continuing with it... many reasons are influencing me. A: there's little place for them in my body of work. It's such a wierd little niche, and there is so little to unify the piceces I've done. B: And looking back, they seem, at least artistically, very trivial to me... the list continues. I've got so many more interesting art endeavors that I could pick up otherwise and I might just do that. I started them, I suppose, to rekindle my forgotten talents with watercolor, gouache, and pen & ink. Which they haven't done as I had hoped. I'll continue to search for ways to explore the traditional media again... but don't expect to see any more lady's of such an ilk.

Succulents Done!

Here's a progression from sketch to middle-stages of one of my latest pieces... just me watering my succulents (cacti and the like). I hope to eventually pull this one into Photoshop and throw in texturing and more minute detail work please, let me know what you think!

YAY it's done! I think... I finally got time to work on it tonight and seeing as how crazy my schedule has been this week I'm gonna call it done... hope you like it guys.
